AMHA USA supports confidential mental health services and information.
We provide information about ethical psychotherapy, counseling, and mental health services. We provide information about choosing a counselor or therapist and offer a growing list of member professionals in our member directories. We are a trusted link to information about the ongoing effort to maintain privacy in the professional relationships between clients and their therapists or counselors.
AMHA members are committed to preserving the privacy of your personal health information.
AMHA members are required by law and the ethics of their professions to protect the privacy of your personal health information and, if they conduct electronic transactions involving your personal health information, they are required to give you notice that: DESCRIBES HOW CLINICAL INFORMATION ABOUT YOU MAY BE USED AND DISCLOSED AND HOW YOU CAN GET ACCESS TO THAT INFORMATION.
AMHA members are required by state laws and the ethics of their mental health profession to have your written consent before they disclose your personal health information to others for payment for the care that they provide to you or for administrative activities supporting your treatment.
AMHA members may be required or permitted by certain laws to disclose your personal information for other purposes without your consent or authorization.
AMHA members place the highest value on client privacy and do not make "permitted" disclosures without advising their clients. As a patient you have important rights; to request that communication with with you be done confidentially, to request that clinicians restrict certain uses and disclosures of your health information, to inspect and have copied some of the information that clinicians maintain to amend or correct that information, to obtain an accounting of any disclosures of your clinical information, and to complain if you think your rights to privacy have been violated.
Many AMHA members have available detailed NOTICE OF PRIVACY PRACTICES which fully explain your rights and our obligations under law.
AMHA members may revise their notices from time to time. You have the right to receive a copy of AMHA members' current NOTICE, please ask and they will provide you with a copy.
